SUMMARY

At the heart of Aldine’s story is a truth that can be hard to accept: sustainable instructional improvement is not about finding the perfect solution. It’s about committing to a course of action, and getting better at it every year. One district leader summed it up, saying: “This is a marathon and not a sprint. It is so easy to say: we’ve done this for two years, we don’t see the result, it’s time to try something else. We’ve not relented to that.”

Aldine demonstrated a commitment to systemic perseverance, choosing to sharpen existing frameworks and implementation practices rather than abandon them when challenges arose. Six years in, the results are unmistakable: in Spring 2025, Aldine posted the largest reading gains among large Texas districts, with a seven-point increase on the state assessment. Its progress highlights the importance of clear-eyed vision-setting and bold leadership that plays the long game—pursuing the vision with assurance and persistence over time.

“Just because things are difficult does not mean they’re not doable. Sometimes we have to go through the uncomfortable moment. I’m glad we didn’t give up.”
